GREEN TREE TIMES

Kids games and kids puzzles

Do you remember a few years back Isabella Bogdan was the junior writer? Well, I ran into her at Keystone Oaks Youth Night at Dormont Field. She’s now a junior at Keystone Oaks High School and it’s her 3rd year starting for the girl’s varsity soccer team playing center midfield and defense. Her younger sister, Genevieve, and I play on the same soccer team this year.

Hi everyone! Happy Fall! It’s 90 degrees out as I write this but I guess it’s still fall and I am back in school.

This year we have a new Principal Mr. Munz. He’s great! He greets us every day at the front door and on the first day of school he was there with all of the teachers and Iceburgh, the Pittsburgh Penguin Mascot. It was funny and a nice way to start the school year.

As in the past years, I’d like to let you know about kid/family friendly activities to do around town.

I recently attended the Greentree Octoberfest. It’s a great place to spend time with friends and family. I’m just not sure why it’s called Octoberfest when it’s held in September?  My friends and I had a lot of fun! We rode the mechanical bull, we jumped on the bungee ropes and a few of my friends climbed the rock wall. There were lots of food booths, a petting zoo, bands, you could’ve spent all day and night there. If you missed it this year, plan on going next year!

Youth Night was a lot of fun. All of the soccer teams came together for a night at Dormont Stadium and we got to go on the field with the varsity soccer team. I am playing for KO United Macaws.

Adventures

Around Town

by Mia McCafferty

Do you have any upcoming plans for this fall or October?  I am planning on going back to Allen’s Haunted Hay Ride again. You can reserve a bonfire area for your group and make s’mores. There are games like at a fair and you can also take the haunted hay ride. I’m not sure I am doing that part this year. It was pretty scary the last time! I am also planning on having a pumpkin carving party.

My next article I plan on having a few guest writers. I want to give them a chance to talk about some of the things that they do around town, too.

Thanks for reading!  Hope to see you around town.

Soccer is only one of the fall sports I am playing. This year I am trying volleyball and I really like it a lot.

We recently went to a Pitt women’s volleyball game where we got to greet the players on the court and met with them after for selfies and autographs.

Layne Van Buskirk, #7, is my favorite player. We’re both #7 and we’re both tall. Well, she’s 6’3 but I’m still growing!  The whole team was super nice and I hope to go to more games.  Oh, and Roc the Pitt Panther was there too dancing with us and making us all laugh!

I am also running cross country again this year. I’ve included a picture with a few of my teammates.

If you like coffee, great food and desserts, you should check out Carnegie Coffee Company on Main Street, in Carnegie. My mom and I hosted a wedding shower for my cousin Mikaela there and it turned out really nice. Ashley, the owner and Sue, the events coordinator, were so helpful and nice. There was a waffle bar and you could add your own toppings. They were delicious! You can stop in for coffee or lunch and on the weekend they have a really great brunch!
